CONFLICT TRENDS (NO. 41) REAL-TIME ANALYSIS OF AFRICAN POLITICAL VIOLENCE, SEPTEMBER 2015
Welcome to the September issue of the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project’s (ACLED) Conflict Trends report. Each month, ACLED re- searchers gather, analyse and publish data on political violence in Africa in realtime. Weekly updates to realtime conflict event data are pub- lished on the ACLED website, and are also availa- ble through our research partners at Climate Change and African Political Stability (CCAPS).
This month’s issue focuses on allegations against peacekeeping forces in Central African Republic, the continuation of a regime of intimidation in Egypt, the potential for Islamic State expansion across Africa, decreased levels of violence follow- ing peace talks in South Sudan and a reduction in violence against civilians in Sudan, economically- driven protests in Tunisia and patterns of violence surrounding the Zimbabwe by-elections. Two Special Focus Topics explore the containment and diffusion of violence during peacekeeping de- ployment and inequality and conflict across Afri- ca using the Gini Index.
Elsewhere on the continent, violence increased in Somalia while DR-Congo, Kenya and Nigeria were subject to a drop-off in conflict events.
